I’m a daughter, devoted partner and Recovery Coach. Since 2015 I have worked with behavioral and health addiction. My days are spent on the front lines, trying to help my neighbors overcome their addiction and the horrible misfortune of being unsheltered. I’m running for City Council because I want to make our streets safe so no one feels threatened while enjoying our beautiful city, because I want to change our overdose rate and help our neighbors have a safe place to sleep. I want to make Charleston a place of promise instead of pain, and I believe if we all work together we can do just that.

I’m a husband, father, home owner, and I’ve lived on the West Side for most of my life. Over the years I have worked with the neighborhood’s youth in afterschool programs and as a youth sports coach. Through those endeavors, I have met the kids, parents, and organization leaders, who have the power to initiate change in our community. My goal is to be a voice for a call to action in City Council to support those good people, in the trenches trying to affect change. It’s not us against them. I'm a lifelong resident of Charleston, WV. I served on Active Duty with the WV Army National Guard for nearly 25 years. After retirement I played active rolls in various local non-profit organizations to help make Charleston a better place in which to live.

I’m running to represent you as your Ward 8 City Councilwoman. I am a life-long resident of Ward 8—in fact, I live in my childhood home. I have strong ties to the community. My late father is Dr. Cubert Smith, your former representative. Like both my father and mother, I am a teacher and an activist. It would give me great pleasure to represent our community.

The East End is a special place to live and work. My goals for Ward 9 are a local supermarket easily accessible to residents, a more walkable neighborhood, and practical solutions to dealing with the homeless crisis. Since 1993, I’ve been an attorney in Charleston. Most of my practice, both within the county and privately, has been associated with the Public Defender System defending indigent people.

Born and raised in Charleston, I have always been passionate about helping children succeed. I am an elementary teacher, where I work with a variety of experts to try to reach every child and improve outcomes for all. That's why I'm running for City Council-- to collaborate with others to try to help meet people where they are, and help them on their path to a better future.

I am running for City Council because I am concerned about the public health of Charleston. From my work as a research scientist, I know that the city has a significant issue with HIV, hepatitis C, and endocarditis due to a lack of knowledge and resources for citizens of Charleston.

I am a small business owner with a background in science and education. As a current resident of Kanawha City, I see many things that we could do as a community to improve the lives of our neighbors. I am running for city council because I believe there are many steps we can take Charleston a safer city for all of us to call home. These steps include dealing with abandoned structures, a modern and real world approach to the drug epidemic, and increasing community green space.

I am running for City Council to help Charleson address its overdose crisis, unhoused crisis, and to advocate for seniors and youth. I am a social worker, small business owner, and community builder. For the past decade, I’ve brought Charleston’s neighbors together to help tackle our challenges.
